Do you mean an OBDII connector? Does it actually have one? There is the ABS diagnostic plug on the RHS fascia near the fuse box.

I can't recall ever plugging my diagnostic computer into my D1 (or any D1).

    Hi
There are connectors but not obdII, depending on what system you want to diagnose there are different plugs in a nuber of positions
From a fading memory the engine plug is under the steering column and opaque, there is other connectors but can't remember at the moment if i can recall later will post a reply
    Regards

My actual problem is idling at 1200rpm, stepper seems to change hot and cold, cant find any air leaks, just wanted conformation before i start spending, ie.ECU...also goes from 1500 to 3500rpm when rolling in gear with foot on clutch

the engine diagnostic connector is a white 5 pin type (does not have all 5 wires). may have a blanking connector fitted with 1 black wire or left open or taped over. it is on the engine loom as it runs under the drivers side dash to the ecu in the drivers kick panel.
the hot wire injection needs simple but careful setup to run correctly, but before that, check thermostat operation, ignition system (including dwell variation, vac and dynamic advance) clean the breather system and throttle. ring me on 0421509083 if you have any questions.

A+ for that answer! thermostat is new and opens as i just replaced heater core, what a job!! breather system clean, throttle body clean, got the revs down to 950 on start up reducing the base idle speed screw, however still can't set timing due to revs, also after it heats up wants to idle @2000, turned it off @ the lights yesterday and restarted it, stepper worked straight away and dropped back to 950??? have been told by 2 non land rover mechanics that it's probably a failing fuel regulator, about to change rubber fuel hose immediately prior to regulator and inspect, any ideas greatly appreciated as i am working on 0$ budget and plenty of time (pension)!

My 96 TDI has an OBD11 plug in the plastic panel which is below the panel that opens under the steering column.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."
