If I put my spare ECU into my vehicle will it recognise the vehicle VIN or is this assigned to the ECU from factory?
Having trouble getting my head around modified LR software being protected but all credit to the people that bother to do this stuff.

The BAS patch was called "Read-All". It allowed you to read and save the .TUN file which the stock firmware didn't allow. It didn't change the file protection for uploading.

BAS use the .TUN format to prevent their flash files being shared/pirated. Pete is hardly likely to provide a means for circumventing this protection.

You best bet is to contact BAS and ask if they are able to give you a second version for your spare ECU. Failing that you'd need to alter the VIN in the spare ECU to match you main ECU. It can be reprogrammed using TestBook (none of the consumer level diagnostic units support this as far as I'm aware), or more intrusively using EEPROM programming tools.

    cheers

    Hi Paul,
Just quoting Pete below from the readall thread, my interpretation is that the patch can change the file extension/format from .tun to .map?
If I have misunderstood it just goes in the to hard basket and I will leave the standard map in the spare ECU.
Like you said it might be easier just to email Pete and clarify as it isn't worth me mailing ECUs all over the place and I don't want to buy another map.

    Cheers,
    Paul.

When some people buy a Nanocom tuned file it has a file extention of .Tun or simlar this is locked to a partucular vin number and will not let you use it again on a spare ecu. The file needed to use on a spare ecu is a .Map which is unlocked.

So, if you have tuned file on your TD5 and you want to add to a spare ecu you must re save it first as a .MAP, but you can not because the Nanocom tells you the file is protected and can not be saved

This removed the nanocom protection procedure and lets you resave the files as a .map

Ive also added a file called MapConvertor1_01.exe to the shared folder that will let you recreate .Tun files locked to a particular vin and Nanocom ID if you so wish.

I could be wrong but I think what the firmware did was bypass the usual Nanocom protection that prevented .TUN files being read from the ecu and allowed the file to be saved out as a .MAP. For the file to be usable you needed to convert back to .TUN with the convertor utility. It didn't remove the protection from the map file.

I have a couple of BAS .MAP files that were given to me to test but I wasn't able to load them using the EVO. On initial examination the internal file structure is very different to the standard .MAP file layout. I didn't explore further, but I'd guess they either need to be changed to .TUN or run through the converter utility before they could be uploaded.

    cheers

    Hi
    I'm coming of France

I'would put a tun file locked in a second ECU for my Defender TD5 2004.
How can i create a Tn file to a particular VIN and NANOCOM ID ?
    (nanocom evo)
    How can I get MapConvertor1_01.exe ?
    I've no other solutions
    Thanks
