I think there is a you tube clip that shows you how to do it.

    G'day.
    Interesting demo.
The bloke had a card with lots of numbers and stuff on it.
What were they and where did he get them ?

A tag with the numbers should come with the key if you are buying a new one. There should also be a code on a sticker on the fob circuit board which you can use. If you don't have access either of these you can't program the key.

    cheers

Personally I wouldn't do it for anyone from the experience I had with our D2, where the engine was running, the instrument panel was dead, and then when I turned it off, everything was dead.. (using an older style nanocom)

Not good. I did get it sorted, but it wasnt an enjoyable 30mins, and I certainly wouldnt do a car for anyone else.

IMO I would let them pay a dealer to do it.

Is there a risk that if you enter the key code into an existing keys code position that you will disable the key? I'll be doing this shortly

Yes - best thing to do is to open your existing key fob(s) and write down the code(s) off the circuit board(s) before you do anything. Then check which position (1-4) in the BCU contains that code(s). Write the new key's code to one of the other (unused) positions.

Attached are verified instructions on how to do it with a Nanocom 1.

I don't have a Nanocom EVO so haven't been able to verify the procedure in the attachment. (It is the work of another AULRO member.)

Legend Gary, thanks for this. With the video this makes it really clear on what's happening.

It's normal. When talking to the BCU either with my hawkeye or my nanocom the cluster goes dead until you are done. It takes a bit of time for it to come back to life after you've disconnected.

Both my key fobs start the car but neither plip works.

I was looking at the Nanocam documentation and it says there are settings in the ECU to disable plips so I will check that when I get my Nanocom.

Question-Both my keys appear to have the same number, but the last 2 digits on one are obscured. Is it common that both keys which came with the car will have the same number? Both have the same date 3/3/02.
Both keys start with eg 3L2Kwhile one says 99 while the other is worn away.
To be on the safe side I bought a 433Mhz receiver from Bundalene on Ebay as a poster had the receiver die on them. I suspect it is this that has happened and a PO did not want to spend all the labour to have the headlining removed to get to it..

Owning a D2 is such fun.
    Regards Philip A
