Nanocom fail to connect to ECU TD5

    G'day,

Joel on here was very kind to plug in his Nanocom into my Defender 130 2001 TD5 to check my codes, however all we got was a fail to connect to ECU error. So now I suppose it means checking every wire to ensure that all wires are connected as should be. Any other ideas?

    cheers

Check and clean Earths and remove and clean the ECU plugs with contact cleaner.

Then check main relays and do the same.

Is the Nanocom unlocked for the TD5 and the Defender?
    Cheers

It's unlocked for Td5 Disco. It show "locked" for stuff it can't check.

Nanocom doesn't care if the motor is in a Disco or Defer regarding the TD5.

I thought this thread had a feeling of Deja Vu.
I recall you had problems back in 2011 with misfiring etc which apparently had something to do with additional plugs/wiring?

Unfortunately the Nano or any tool cant help with codes until the ECU is able to communicate again.
Time to go back and check the basics and visually and continuity check the ECU wiring and Earths.
Sensor plugs while important wont cause the Nano to fail to communicate (they will cause a fault code)
I'd wager some cash it is associated with the last issue you had.

Yeah. I was pretty sure that was the case.

    x2 What Strangy said.

The ECU will run and communicate with a diagnostic tool with nothing but the ground, power and k-line hooked up, so if you are seeing problems these are the areas to check first.

    Nanocom to ECU connection fail

    G'day All,

Hopefully fixed the non connect. Soldered broken black & pink wires in the diagnostic plug loom. Now just waiting for the new Nanocom from bbox. had to send money to English Bank. Paid $523.00, dont know if that is expensive, however dont care as long as it works

cheers all and again thanks for your help & advice.
