    Nanacom question

The other day I registered and installed the unlock codes in the thingy.
Sometime next week I will plug it into the P38.
I havent used one of these units before so when I plug it in for the first time do I do it with the engine running or turned off ?
I havent learnt the why's or how too's yet so I want to get off to the right start.

    Ta.

You can use as on-board computer, reading the sensors in real time while the car is turned on. to do this choose an option instruments within p38. But to make diagnosis and settings in ecu should do only with an ignition key to position 2.

    Okay, thanks for that.

    It'll power up either way.

MASSVIE NOTE: ALWAYS HAVE THE NANOCOM END PLUGGED IN FIRST! (I keep it plugged in) THEN PLUG INTHE OBD2 PORT END. To plug in the OBD2 end then the Nanocom end will short out the unit and at a minimum require the replacement of a couple of fuses.

Mine stays plugged in and set to boot into gauge mode. Some functions such as brakes and suspension will not work while the car is running as running some functions would be very unsafe while driving. Other require that the ignition be either on or the car running.

I haven't yet found a reference sheet for these requirements though.

If you want to get the most out of the Nanocom I'd suggest you download and read through the relevant module documents at: :: Download - Nanocom ::

If you haven't done so have a read through the V1_3 Nanocom Evolution User Guide pdf. Section 5 onwards should be compulsory reading for any owner as this contains the foundational information on how to use the basic features of the Nanocom.

For that point you could move on to the Module documentation. I'd recommend you download and read through all the module pdfs which are relevant to your vehicle. You don't need to memorise them, but if you know what information is available it's easier to find and refer to when you actually need it.

In addition to the Module documentation you'll find a copy of RAVE pretty much essential. Operation and Description sections tend to have a fair bit of background information - the Electrical section has something like 30 pages on the setting that can be configured in the BeCM for example.

    cheers

    What Paul Said ^^^^RTFM

From someone who didn't, FIRST learn what this very complex and highly functional diagnostics computer can do, how it does it, and what certain phrases mean.
Mate, it will save you a lot of heartache and emails/ posts for no reason.
You'll also discover just how much it can do and understand what you are seeing much more easily.

AS stated above, NEVER plug the cord into the Nano last.
And be gentle with the screen, some here have found out that the screen is not Armoured, particularly in the corners. I have found that using a phone/ game scribe pen lightly works much better than stabbing at the little buttons with my big sausages.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers, BDave.
