Essentially the software will work as advertised. The diagnostic software is a slightly older version of the X431 workshop software. The vehicle coverage has been developed as vehicles are released so has been fairly well debugged.

The main thing will be whether the coverage is what you need. The software is firmly targeted at workshop diagnostics, so reconfiguration and programming is very limited. If you need something to do reconfiguration or firmware programming you'd need to look to a specialist tool.

If you feel like a trip to Brunswick I'm happy to hook mine up for a look see.

So it may be this a reasonable way to go.

I have ordered one of these for the iOS/iPad from Hong Kong and am waiting for delivery now. Will post back how it works.

Finally arrived yesterday after a looong wait from Singapore (?), and have had a quick chance to work with it. It cost $15USD including the postage, so am dubious if it was genuine, looks the real deal, just the plug was supplied thou, not the extension lead or the the red plastic cover. It registered OK with the supplied serial number and passcode/number at the x431/cnlaunch website and then I paid $66USD to download the Land Rover software, here goes...

The only two modules that I really managed to get working with the 02-05 Range Rover was the Engine (Petrol) and the Auto Trans. It managed to read the same error codes pulled by a Snap-On computer and also cleared them successfully.

Impressive is the live data feature that you can monitor all sorts of functions in real time, e.g. coolant temp, auto oil temp, the amount of knock in each cylinder or the level of roughness(misfire), the o2 sensors, and etc. Have only payed with one or two of these for now.

There were, however, a number of communication issues, where it thought that it was not plugged in to the ODB port, or the ignition switch was off when on, or other connections error with all the other modules. Will play around some more over the weekend and report further.

It was a bit hit and miss depending on the software version when I first bought the iDiag. It has now settled down and you require an internet connection each and every time you connect to the interface.

This does reduce the utility of the software/interface if you are looking for something that works outside of areas with mobile internet coverage.
