Which is the best OBD socket Diagnostic tool?

I have numerous ongoing faults with my 2007 RR and would like some way of trying to find out what the hell is going on.

For instance, I just went to pickup some gear and this was the first drive in the RR for a little over a week.

I have no front air suspension at the moment, but I suspect, like all the other spontaneous problems, it will fix itself.

Anyway, I drover for about 25 km with the radio on and parked.

I was out of the RR for about 10 minutes.

I get in start the motor and drove off. I noticed the radio was not on and when I looked at the screen, NOTHING.

The screen was off and I could not turn it on.

About half a km up the road I had to stop at a set of traffic lights and as I knew I would be there for a few minutes, I turn the motor off and removed the key.

As the lights were about to change, I started the motor and the screen is now fine and the radio is back on.

This would be about the third or fourth this has happened since I bought this pussbox.

And this is just one of many strange “faults” I get.

So what OBD socket Diagnostic tool do people use?

Many people on here & on FullFatRR use the IIDTool from GAPDiagnostic.

I have one for my MY05 RR & would highly recommend it. Check E-Bay for best prices or your usual UK vendor . Like yourself their backup is fantastic.

I sent them a request for an Australian supplier just before I posted this thread.

But you recommend getting them off Ebay.

I suppose that you of all people would already have checked the batttery voltage so perhaps there's a loose earth connection hidden behind one of the A-pillar covers or similar.

Hi Graeme and I haven’t had the chance to do much at all as I have been flat out, plus having a gut hatred of this heap, I rarely drive it now.

But I had strip down the compressor housing and was trying to work out how to find the fault.

The compressor is working fine and the rear suspension is working but both front wheels are on the “bums” so to to put it.

Mechanically, I have been very surprised with this RR but electronically, it has had a fault from the factory and has never been fixed.

Neither the dealer or LRA were interested in fixing this heap while it was under warranty and up until now, the RR was at least drivable on road.

I have done a fair bit of research over the last 4 weeks, when the front suspension decided it was it’s turn to take a holiday and there seems no real way easy to check to see if the three valve blocks are working properly, which is where I suspect the problem is, as there is no apparent air leaks.

This is the reason for getting an OBD tool of some form.

I’ll be stripping the front suspension down over the weekend and I’ll start be wiring, and as you suggested, i’ll check the earth.

As far as the battery goes, it’s new and is on a battery charger most of the time so should not be part of the problem.

If I knew someone locally with a generic fault reader I’d get that done first but as that will cost to do, I might as well get one of my own and be done with it.

I’ve done a search there and on rovernet but only got info on how the problem was either defined or resolved, by getting the vehicle to a dealers or getting an OBD tool, which I got there idea of from Fullfat.

The problem I have is that to date, all my problems have been electronic or more accurately, programming glitches.

So while I could and probably have a mechanical problem, I still have to try to sort out which it is, a software glitch or a full on genuine problem.

This is just the latest of loads of mystery problems I have always had.
