Hello. I am currently trying to fix a problem with a Nanocom Evolution on a 2.2Lt Defender. I am speaking with Nanocom Forum, but all suggested fixes haven't worked. From the various attempts, they are suggesting there is a problem with my connection from the OBDII socket to the computer. The Landrover Dealer computer is connecting alright and I am reluctant to fiddle with the vehicle's wiring. I am looking for anyone with a similar vehicle in the Port Lincoln area, willing to let me try connecting to their computer. Alternatively, someone with a Nanocom Evolution willing to connect to my vehicle. Mine will load to the CAN BUS stage, but fails trying to find VIN details.
Thanks
Nick
Hiya Nick.
I have not seen your posts on the Nanocom Forum as I don't know your user name on there, as such am not able to follow progress and whatever advice my staff are giving you.
What I can tell you is that we are encountering a small number of Puma Defenders that have had their instrument packs replaced by dealers, who fail to notice, find and use the VIN programming function, which to be fair to them is a bit hidden away and not doing so presents no easily notable problem.
Of course having a VIN of all zeros is not a problem for any Diagnostic system that has no requirement or expectation of a correct VIN, however the Nanocom not only requires a valid VIN to authenticat that it is connected to a Defender for licencing reasons but also as CAN BUS coverage on the Nanocom is Functionality based, needs this to correctly provide only the requisite functions.
Unfortunately on a Defender we are very limited as to where we can electronically obtain the VIN, and amazingly we have noted that some Defenders have the VIN programmed in backwards which we have amended the software to cater for.
This blandk unprogrammed VIN may or may not be your case and I certainly remain open minded and agree that another Vehicle or Nanocom will provide further valuable info to help us all figure this out
However as you state
Having it show the VIN from the Ipac would also be a great helpThe Landrover Dealer computer is connecting alright
And if it is blank, have them program it properly while they are at it.
I hope this helps
ATB
