What diag tool should I get?

Ok - long story short - I worked for JLR a while back but as the administration wasnt that great -i left. Now I've got customers who want to get their cars serviced where I'm at (porsche) as they said they would rather go to me than the dealership lol.

I know my techs can do the service bit and what not.

What I'd like to know is what diag tool is the best for all rounder?

like I would like something that can read codes- reset lights on a disco/rr and get the air susp cars into tight tolerance mode and other bits I need.

That way, I can actually get their cars done via us and be able to reset the lights etc and do it correctly.

    Can anyone suggest any? thanks

    Hiya LoveB

Sadly, IMHO there is no one piece of diagnostic equipment for Land Rover vehicles that is "the Best all rounder"

Even the Dealers themselves have to use both a T4 or the SDD (previously called IDS) for absolutely all model coverage which actually may be the best route for you to follow.

Our Faultmate MSV-2 equipment does have the widest model coverage of all Land Rover Vehicle models, but in all honesty even I would not recommend that in your case, as you appear to need Multi Model and Multi Vehicle capabililities that can be done with the MSV-2 but only at a very high cost as nowadays we specifically tailor it with SV locking more for for private ownership only.

A lot of Indies go with the Auto Logic, but beware on going upgrade and support costs for that that you might want to fully research before committing.

    I hope this helps you

    You are most welcome LoveB

We try our best to help anyone, even when it means our own products are not the most suitible.

    Re your link;
Despite the badging, I do not recognise either the Main unit or communication interface pictured in the listing as being official or origional Land Rover hardware.

The reality is that you can install the IDS / SDD software on pretty much anything and there is a wide variety of interface options. Copy, Clone, origional, bootleg, legitimate or pirate. Take your pick.

But as I origionally stated, any IDS / SDD system will not cover Earlier vehicles like a Discovery 2 or P38 for which you would need other equipment.

Just bumpiungi this up instead of starting a new thread...

was looking at the nanocom -

if I got the defender puma unit + added unlocks for td5 defender, range rover l322 (late model) disco 4 and the defender extras etc it comes to about $1000 odd.

Can I get any feedback on the nanocoms? I will really mainly use it to read codes , reset service reminders if needed and set suspension to TTM. and whatever else it can do lol by the looks of it the nanocom can? is that correct?

A not so cheap(IMO not expensive for what it does) and very reliable alternative would be the Hawkeye Pro, this one is made by Omitec the manufacturer of main dealer's Testbook T4, i've seen one in action and it's pretty remarcable, see this [ame]http://www.bearmach.com/files//HawkeyePro%20Web%20PDF.pdf[/ame] ... i dont have shares in it believe me but i have a simple Hawkeye and i can vouch for it

other variant which i've just seen once working and nice too, cheaper than Hawkeye but not handheld, made by the same company is this http://www.lynx-diagnostics.com/
    Discovery Td5 (2000), manual, tuned

    Hiya LoveB

Although not independant, I can confirm that The Nanocom does indeed provide all of the regular Diagnostic features you mention and then some, by which I mean very significant ones that no other equipment manufacturer is able to provide, including the dealers own SDD.

As a large part of what you are considering to invest in is coverage of a D4 and a 2010 on Range Rover that amounts to around $1120 before the current 25% group buy discount that still has a few days left to run, I really think you should check out the rather unique On Line services provided to Nanocom Owners of CAN BUS Vehicles like these via Genesis.

Fortunately we have a Demo account set up for you ;-)

    www.nanocom-diagnostics.com/genesis
you or anyone can log into this account using a User Name of demo and a Password of genesisdemo
Then you can enter a VIN number for a D3/4 or RR which having access to all LR databases, Genesis will Validate.
You will then have options of being able to see and edit that specific Vehicles Car Configuration File (CCF) which literaly means being able to change any of the many thousands of possible settings or access the Flash File Download database to obtain any valid file set for updating the firmware on just about every one of the dozens of flashable ECU's on the vehicle and naturally Genesis also knows the software versions that weer programmed into the many ECU's in the Vehicle when it left the factory.

As if all this were not sufficient proof of our position, unique abilities and justification for the amount we ask to cover these obviously very complex vehicles, I should tell you that next week we will be freely releasing Key Programming for all 2010 on Vehicles that has taken over two weeks of very hard work by some very smart and experienced guys to develop backed by over 20 years of experience in exclusively developing Diagnostic equipment for Land Rover Vehicles and will include no less than six very valuable functions some of which are truly remarkable and true firsts.

One is the abilty of the Nanocom to learn a key to a vehicle that had previously been learned to another Vehicle, ie a second Hand Ebay Type Key.

Another is the ability to reset any Key to As New / Factory state such that any lesser equipment that just has the Learn a New Key function can use it.

LoveB you already have two major benefits to investing in a Nanocom.

    1) A rather special offer of a 25% discount under the current Group buy
    2) The owner of the company right here on a public forum able to be reached be things Good, Bad or Ugly.

Most would consider that a No Brainer
