Question OBD2 diagnostics and code reading / ELM327

Having recently had some family members have issues come up on their vehicles (PK Ranger and VW Polo) with OBD2 ports I have purchased an ELM327 for the OBD2 post in USB, wifi and bluetooth flavours (they're cheap so why not).

Any recommendations on what software to use? The common recommendation is Torque app but this is Android only and I have no Android devices. I'm looking for software to suit iOS (iPhone/iPad), Mac OS X or Windows - happy to consider paid software within reason.

Alternatively the ScanGauge device seems to get a good recommendation - http://scangauge.com.au

I have been looking at same just recently. It depends what functionality you are after, but DashCommand comes at a pretty good price. EOBD-Facile may be an option but a little more expensive at about $20 for the premium.
At least you can download a free edition of EOBD to try it out with limited functionality before committing the dollars.
Wish I had Android and TorquePro though.
