As I seem to have acquired a D2a, I suppose I should get educated on these Nanocom things. Are they VIN or model specific, Are they available locally or from OS, new or S/H. Do they come with all the cables/dongles/etc., Are they better bang for buck than say the Faultmate (and others).

    So many questions

    TIA

Only the unlock codes are model specific, multiple codes can be loaded for utilisation in multiple models .
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

I did think about it for a bit but as my (second purchase) Nanocom has been working absolutely flawlessly in every possible way, I see no point until an update does something my current firmware (1.10) doesnt.

I can only compare it to other diagnostic equipment that is $4000 and up...
*No big flashy GUI (the pretty bit you look at).
*Surprising such a small and cheap (in purchase price) device is colour.
*Very powerful diagnostic tool, It can access stuff that rivals and betters a LOT of very expensive diagnostic tools.

What I see coming from a point of view of a "new" Nanocom user is people sometimes have trouble with the fact you can access things on a Land Rover that previously people couldnt with a consumer "code reader" or similar device.
*Perhaps slightly slower in response when compared to some electronic devices and I only say "perhaps" personally I find it fast and responsive for such a small physical device.
*Like any diagnostic tool, its accessing controls/options in say the BCU that are already there, its the diagnostic tools ability to access these options that tend to vary between brands/models. I see some have difficulty in that they thinks its the diagnostic tool doing some magic rather than than accessing above said options.
*So when something wont work, its more likely that its the computer being accessed (on your Land Rover) rather than the computer in your hand.

So... huge bang for bucks.... if you own a Land Rover

P.S Whats not very clear is the purchase and what one you need to buy, for example I purchased a D2 TD5 and then went looking for the add on for a Defender TD5, but its already included with a D2 purchase, which is pretty good.

Sounds like I am going to need one. Are they available locally as I would prefer to support the locals if I can.

Try and get onto an aulro group buy - there is usually one in vogue (pun not initially intended) or being developed. Colin the owner/MD has traditionally been very supportive, especially for aulro members and those like Offside (Paul) who were experts and happy to do beta trialling etc.
As Darren says great value, even in instrument mode if that is your thing.
