Have you actually had it work on a V8? Interested as I had several goes at it.
The D2 whether its engine is a V8 or TD5 have IDENTICAL BCU / SLS/ ABS / ACE systems.
Nanocom will work with either (Except the V8 engine) . The error of "unable to initialize the ECU" is just the crappy language between the car and the tool, disconnect the Nanocom and turn the ignition on then back off to position 1 and re-try it.
It took me several attempts to talk to a TD5 last week, but it goes in the end, I think its more the BCU is "fussy" than anything else.
As far as that ABS amigo goes, well imo hes on to a good thing there as it sells very well in the US at $200 a pop........But waaaaaaaayyyy to expensive to do 1 system in my opinion.
Scangauge will only talk to the V8 Engine using standard OBD11 parameters, it does not work on any other D2 system. Nanocom is a priceless tool and 100% worth the investment.

No worries Psimpson, thanks![]()

Mark,
I have just asked them and will update this thread when they respond.

Basically, the ONLY diff between the 2 is the engine, ALL the other systems are IDENTICAL, so that includes the ABS, Air Suspension, Active Cornering Enhancement (ACE) and the BCU (body control unit) etc.
Nanocom won't do V8 engines, (see below) But, because the V8 was the only choice in the US, the engine has to by law since "94" I think, have OBD capabilty for emissions etc, The NAS spec D1's were OBD compliant, so the "yanks" can get endless diagnostic tools cheaply for their engines, but they struggle with the other systems as we all did till Nanocom arrived (thank god).
Diagnostic tools to read the V8 are so easy to get anywhere, but Diesel engines did not have to meet that criteria so the function was not added till a lot later.
"If" the TD5 was sold in the US, then it would have been easy for the home DIY'er to fix it / buy Diagnostic tools etc.
Ref confirmation.........
I e-mailed Mattia at Nanocom ages ago ref this, He responded as I had suspected, both cars are the same.
Nanocom is "primarily" TD5 based because it was developed in Italy where they just dont have the V8 engines. Mattia has already told me "if" and when he gets a V8 to "play" with, he will add the V8 Engine to Nanocom as well.
On paper that looks good and would solve some intermittent problems but may have the potential to mask more serious problems and affect the operation of the abs, guessing it would be around $350 aus??

Hi Stevo
It does say that it reads the codes for further diagnosis, still pretty costly
to be honest you would be better off buying a nanocom and do the whole car, I have a rovacom lite and it has come in handy, Have you had the codes read?? to see what it is, I had a crook speed sensor which brings up the three amgoes and I have fixed three modulators including mine to get rid of the lights.
I use after market pads and never had a problem but if there is noise in the system it seems to make any faults show up easier.
