    Just a few useless questions

So are Land rovers like the jap cars can you change settings and load different software onto the ecu

If so how is this done i understand enough about computers to work it all out but i wouldn't have a clue where to start

    Witch models would allow this
What hardware would i need and where do i get it

As i said wouldn't have a clue where to start

I'm guessing you want to increase Kw & torque. You can buy after market plug in modules/chips, or you buy a Nanocom & if you have 'flashable' ECU (later than 2002?) you can upload a performance map file. You can also read & reset fault codes of engine, ABS brake computer and several others as well.
Check out Diagnostics, Good Oil for more info on what you want to achieve.
    Cheers..B

To which ECU are you referring? I use Rovacom to access all the ECUs in mine.

    Dont know

I understand how things work i just dont know a few things

I know that loading new maps and stuff is pretty much just like flashing a eprom chip you find a map and just load it to whatever device you are changing

With most of the jap tuner cars people have written there own apps to directly modify the factory ecu settings anything from rev limiter to abs settings boost even turn off the airbags

Its a fairly simple process to plug you laptop in via a usb cable start your software connect the device or ecu and read away edit whatever you want

Now what i want to know is can the factory ecu be modified
Do i need to change the ecu
where do i get a good one

Telling us the engine and car would be a good start if you want accurate advice.

If it's regarding landrovers, a good place to start would be the Black Box Solutions website, who make rovacom, faultmate etc... That will tell you what configuration options are available.

I believe Nanocom is the preferred choice for TD5's???
