A Jag specialist mentioned to me once: "I get guys in here with an extracted motor, 'what will you give me for it?' I say, '$100 - maybe? If you'd left it in the car, let me test it before it was removed - maybe several times that.'
Those motors are(!) heavy. Even lifting the head off them needs an engine jack. Even so, they're hard not to like - that long-stroking note... And the sheer mass combined with the original spec spring-rates is one of the secrets to the 'ride'.
EFI - if done properly - transformed their reliability. As did ditching all 'Lucas' electricals in favour of Bosch.
