my moneys on an avionics bay fire.

sure theres multpile redundancies on the system but all the systems are in the same place.

I recon the fire took out the comms (not going to speculate on fire VS explosion VS terrorist just that something took out the avionics bay) first and they were trying to leg it to land. when the whole damn fly by electronics thing just went melty and with the glide ability of a cement glider it was just a matter of time.

The strange thing is that the plane apparently made two left turns. Surely the autopilot couldn't do that? Wouldn't it mean someone was still alive and able to make the final turn?

The first left turn was made before the calm goodnight sign off from the co-pilot.

The plane appears to have made two left turns, which look as if calculated to avoid as far as possible radar coverage. This certainly looks as if it was under control of someone who knew what they were doing, and is not consistent with a fire or explosion, especially since the aircraft was able to remain airborne for another five hours.

at what angle. rate minits were these turns made. it was night!

A low rate turn would not be noticed, may not have been noticed. And can not be noticed by the PAX

Amazing. One of the causes of the incident involving this 767 was the failure of the computer that replaced the flight engineer.
