    Mustangs at Emu

I came across these on the web and thought they'd be of interest here, especially with Len Beadell speaking as well.

I'm led to believe what's left of them are still there.

We were going to look last august but we ran out of time , had a good look around Mable Ck and then headed in the other direction.

Will plan to go there soon.

Been there a couple of times and they are all gone. I have photos of them on trucks being taken out. One was flown out as per the footage. In the Hospital building at Maralinga there are photos of them on site where the tests were done. The aircraft were placed at various distances from the bomb and had dummies in them. After the test they did tests on the dummies for radiation ect. In the book are reports of the damage to the aircraft and radiation ect. I am lucky enough to have photos of them on site, and a lot of other hisorical shots. There was also a jet fighter out there as well.

Yep, all gone... As Lindsay said, Robin has photographs of them in his house (the old Hospital).

I think I have a photo of the photo! I'll go take a look

Most of those aircraft went to the US from memory, and many are now in the air.

Haven't had time to look at those clips yet, but I will.
But I do remember them, I remember that one aircraft was flown out, after a bit of work, (to Adelaide?), which I thought was quite remarkable, at the time.
They'd be worth a heap more now, than then.
In the 60s, when we lived at Toowoomba, there was a local RAAF stores base (7SD), several of my friends were in the Air Cadets, so they were there regularly,...but there was no security in those days, anybody could go in.
Anyway, one day, a Mustang arrived there, complete, on the back of a low loader, I can see it now, coming up the road! Anyway, it was placed on a stand. & was there for years,...I believe that aircraft is now flying too.
