Several lifetimes ago we were in Scone shopping.
As I got out of the car there was a crackle overhead that was unmistakable.

Col Pay was doing circuits in his P51 Ear porn.

Most of that old iron sounds amazing, but so did the V8, V10 and V12 F1 engines of the 90's.
A pre war straight 8 Fiat GP car was doing demo runs at Adelaide in '91. (I think it was?)

It absolutely howled and sounded better IMO than the W196 Merc that Fangio was driving.
    It had me transfixed.

Back in the mid-Sixties when I was at tech, another trainee brought in a record (remember them?) of the BRM V-16 engine. Sweet!

    Hi,
A long time ago, in another country, I shared a house with a couple of RAAF tradies. One of whom was a sumpy and very keen on muscle cars.
By chance I came across a 33rpm LP "The Sounds of Daytona"
One track had three cars approaching at speed, lots of tyre protests around a tight corner, and a wonderful howl of exhaust note as they exited at full noise down the straight.
Now we lived on a corner that seemed to attract a lot of boy racers from the neighbourhood, racing down the hill and powering away down the road away from the front of the house.
Sumpy's bed room was at the front of the house.
All three of us had good quality HiFi gear bought at ridiculously cheap Asian prices.

Can you see where this is going?

One night I quietly hooked the record player to 3 amplifiers and 6 speakers..
At about 5am, said track was played at full volume.

The sound of the track mimicked the ambiance of the road layout in front of our house perfectly,

"What the hell was that!" Shouted Sumpy breathlessly, having rushed from his bed and just about reefed the front door off its hinges, standing there, wide eyed stairing down the road in nought but his leopard print jocks.
    Cheers
