As he says - clearly points to a manufacturing defect. MBA strikes again, I would guess.

When we were in Africa,4 or 5 yrs ago,in a small 12 seater,a rear door came open about 3 or 4 minutes after take off..

The Co Pilot was not that worried, unlike the passengers.

He just wandered down and pulled it shut.

Given the number of the MAX that were parked up due to the well publicised previous issues one might wonder how many other things might have slipped through the cracks. Just speculation, obviously.

Historically, Boeing was renowned for being a company run by engineers, and with a good career path for engineers - and established a reputation for top quality products. Management was where they built the planes, in Seattle.

About twenty years ago, as the result of a merger, the structure changed, and the company HQ moved to Chicago. Promotion paths for engineers gradually dried up, and the middle and upper tiers of management became primarily MBAs with no expertise in aviation or even manufacturing. As far as possible more and more of the work was outsourced.

The most dramatic result of this is the 737-MAX situation. Although the most public demonstration of this is two disasters that resulted in the type being grounded for a couple of years, perhaps even worse is that Boeing has now as its fleet leader in the single aisle aircraft category a cobbled together development of a fifty year old design, competing with the Airbus A320, which is a twenty year newer design and was more up to date and easier to improve when it was introduced (the 737 was basically a twin engined version of the 707, which as a design was fifteen years old when the 737 was designed).

Two, in fact. Rockwell, followed by McDonnell Douglas. The "acquisition" of MD was the ruin of both companies IMO. And Airbus is the beneficiary. Airbus' structure is far more agile than the top heavy behemoth that is Boeing. I can't imagine that Boeing would survive if not for the military and NASA custom.

But but but, it didn't mention cracks John, although the way things are going Aviation wise it is possible that might be the next build/assy. problem of concern.
I read somewhere that many passengers lost their Mobiles which apparently were sucked out. I can picture some safe PAX saying" thank the Lord for Small mercies."
