Thread: 2001 Freelander 1 rear window problem

I guess by the sound of it you have studied the owners handbook, but have a look at the following:
1)Have you tried raising the rear window by inserting the ignition key in the switch mounted on the taildoor handle? (page 48)

2) have you tried reprogramming the ignition key as suggested on page 18?( Handset resynchronisation)

Only suggestions I can think of, which you may have already tried!!

I have a 2001 Freelander and it has been parked in a garage for 5 weeks while I was on holidays. When I returned the battery was flat and the rear window was down even though it was up when the car was left. After charging the battery I still could not put the window up. Thanks Ausfree. I have tried using the key in the rear door and the window raises then immediately lowers to the bottom. I have checked the reprogramming of the key and all is OK. The locking and alarm system work OK. The LR dealer tells me this is a common problem and the total control unit will need replacing. Expensive. I have talked to an auto electrician who has experience with these cars. He says the control module in the car will need resetting with the correct codes by the dealer. I am not sure where to go next as the dealer seems to only suggest a new unit at great expense. Any thoughts? Thanks.

This is all normal - read the Handbook - after power loss it has to be reset. If I had one handy I would write it out.

Correct, reset the rear window lift parameters, it is covered in the users handbook/manual.
I had to do it twice, but can't recall the steps (wasn't hard though).
Sorry, manual went with the car when I sold it.

Page 155 in the Owner's Handbook talks about recalibrating the taildoor glass after the battery has been disconnected. On re-reading your original post it appears you are aware of this. It seems to depend on whether the alarm was disarmed when the battery went flat or not. Make sure it is disarmed when you attempt to recalibrate!!

I think I have solved this problem. I disconnected the battery and reconnected it and it worked as it should.

I thought I solved my problem but I have not. Window appeared to work ok so I reassembled the motor and rails, etc. When I hooked the power up everything now works in reverse. The inside switch works the wrong way. The key in the door only drops the window. The window will lower to the bottom and when you open the rear door is raises slightly. When the window is closed it will not lower to open the door. When you alarm the door the horn blows once to signify something is not closed. If you lower the window and leave it there the alarm works correctly and the horn does not blow. It appears it is synchronised 180 degrees out. I have tried disconnecting the battery for 15 seconds but nothing changes. Has anyone any suggestions.

You do realise that the key only moves the window in one direction and to move it the other direction you need to hold the unlock button on the fob down.

How is it working from the dash button.
