    Need Help Please!!!

    hi too all

i recently bought a 2002 freelander td4 drove it for about a week or so then random power loss while accelerating (from start to just passed mid way throttle and round long corners)all the while black smoke bellowing from exhaust so i did a search of your forum and found alot of people with similar problems i checked and double checked the turbo hoses they looked ok. Blocked and cleaned the EGR same problem random power loss black smoke bellowing then did more research and come across VCU valve(can somebody please put up a link for me to get this part ) so went to undo the cover then SNAP!!!!i broke a little T piece that sits on top of the injector(i think..) here are a couple of pics of what i broke. pic one is the T piece thingy and pic two is where its located(please if anyone knows the name of and where i can find this part online or otherwise it would be much appreciated) if anyone has any ideas on why my freelander turns into a slug :P every now and then please post its got me pulling out my hair as its my daily commute and is now sitting im my garage awaiting parts

P.S. sorry if this post seems rushed im sorta a newbie to land rover and my mechanical skills are amateur at best(don't mind getting my hands dirty though )

    kind regards

    Hi
The piece you broke is called a spill return pipe. Part number for this is MSP101340L. You cant buy just the one new. It comes as a set.

I would be looking at the solenoid that controls the turbo. Either the filter is blocked. Its a small filter that looks like a old style fuel filter and will be at the right hand rear of the engine, and is vented to atmosphere. Or the solenoid will be causing the turbo to over boost and the engine will be in derate. The solenoid is accessed from under the car above the from the prop shaft at the front.

If your planning to do your own work and keeping it for a while a Hawkeye is a must for codes, live data etc.

That looks like the correct part for the fuel line.

Yes, that's the updated breather for the crankcase. By your description, the one that is in it is the very early one. BMW changed to a foam type and then the cyclone type. Land Rover never offered the cyclone type as a update but it's well worth putting it in, as when they block up turbo failure is one of the symptoms.

I've seen the in line filter I'll check n see if it's blocked if it isn't do you know the part number for the solenoid and how much it might cost me?

    Thanks

    The part number is STC4198.
I would get fault codes read before ordering parts. A over boost will log a fault.

Ah ok I checked out the hawkeye diagnostics bout $500 bucks bit expensive for me at the moment is there a way I can find the fault codes el cheapo style lol like for example a cable and software that I can link to a laptop of something like that? Or is there something I can do in the mean time while I'm waiting for these parts to come in?

    Thanks for your patience

Pretty much useless. I have a couple, but went and bought a Hawkeye in the end. The Hawkeye lets you in to all of the computers - trans, engine, security, body. Good diagnostic info and able to set some of the special functions. Expensive but the only real way to go.

X2. you will be able to get P codes with them. Try having a look in the members with diagnostic equipment section. You may be able to find someone with a hawkeye close to you.
