my 1999 1.8 is reving very high when idling... up to 2500. When I turn the air conditioning on and open vents fully it drops back down to around 800-900 rpm. Can anyone point me in the right direction where to start looking for the root causal. thermostat?

It doesn't leak oil, Its sweating power
does this entail going to a land rover dealership or can it be done elsewhere
It can be done elsewhere but will need to be done at a LR specialist as they will have the required computer to do it. Sorry I cant help you with where, I'm on the other side of the country. I have a hawkeye and it should do it (I haven't done it with a hawkeye but is listed it will)
sorry Woko to show my ignorance but what do you mean by hawkeye
Its a hand held computer for Land Rovers. Google Bearmach Hawkeye. This will give you a picture of one.

I have found the idle air control valve to be faulty but have so far been unable to find anywhere that can help me locate a new or reconditioned one. Have tried Barbagello to no avail and tried a few wreckers. Does anyone know of a freelander in perth being sold for spares or where would be best to locate a new or used idle air controller valve
