    Freelander 1 wont start

Hi, Hoping for some suggestions, 98 Freelander 1 1.8 petrol, Turns over wont fire, Had a mechanic look at it, he put his machine on and said its the coil pack. I paid him and sent him on his way. I brought a new coil pack and still wont start. I pulled the spark plugs out and they are dry and sparking. I suspect fuel, Im getting power to the injectors. I pulled the fuel pump out, the filter felt heavy, The pump sounds like its working as car turns over .brought a new one put it back together and car started first kick for 3 seconds. Then back to just turning over. central locking working fine with remote. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Is this the same car as in your other threads?
Crankshaft sensor & fuel pump done.

The distributor rotor arm was a common failure IIRC. That might explain the coil failure diagnosis.

Still not going after changing the injectors, I have worked out the immobiliser is activated, I changed the remote battery and still nothing. If I pull the plug off the fuel rail it starts momentary. Connect it back up and just turns over. Key pad opens and closes the doors all fine.

    Hi,

Just had a similar problem (but with the diesel) it was just cranking and cranking and cranking..

it was getting an imobiliser code and a fuel pressure code, but apparently if it doesnt start within so many cranks the immobiliser kicks in..
and i replaced the battery in the key to no avail.

what got ours going was a new starting battery! hows yours?

    Regards,
    Tony C

That is a shame as the codes will point to either the actual issue or where to look.
