For versatility in fitting you really can't beat the Icom IC-440.  Unfortunately its not as cheap as some other options, but it has some key advantages:
- Mic/Speaker/Controls all in handset and it can even be unclipped from the extension lead stored in the centre console when not needed.
- 2m of extension lead to handset means base unit can go almost anywhere
The GME equivalent still has the speaker back on the base unit.
For mounting think about using black silastic (the windscreen variant). I used this to mount the UHF base unit in my D2 and D1 very successfully, no screws required
