Thread: FREELANDER 2 TD4 XS-SE / SD4 SE

I have an 08 td4 from new. It has almost 130,000 kms on the clock and has been the best car I have owned. Most owners that I know of are very happy. They drive well on road and are very capable off road. Check out freel2.com, it's a UK site but has members world wide and there aren't too many horror stories on there just the usual info swapping. There can be issues with the rear diff starting to whine a bit. I had mine replaced under warranty no questions asked even though the car was driving well and had not let me down.
Mine has seen a lot of the outback and some pretty hard bush tracks. I wish there were some off road accessories available for it. I've said it before, but I am not sure what spares for them cost because I haven't had to buy any....touch wood

PS: the diesel auto is my pick. Economy is good.

Most low km cars at dealerships are ex-company cars.
They could be ex LR company cars or dealer co cars/demonstrators.

From what I've seen, the diesel FL2s are very good in the long term. Just the odd rear diff whine & occasional electrical gremlin come to mind.

We bought an XS TD4 demonstrator in Feb this year and whilst we've not done any off road work yet the two relatively long country drives so far tell me we've made the right decision. I was apprehensive about missing the arm rest but honestly I've not missed it. We're about to head off to the Grampians and Flinders Ranges in May so that will test its off road capabilites. So far very happy.

Be careful with tyres in the Flinders. I've had mine all the way up to Arkaroola and the gravel can be sharp. I carry an extra spare off the rim because I've seen too many shredded. It's an awesome place. Arkapena Scenic Adventure is a good trek best done to finish around sunset. Tickets and camping at Rawnsley Park near Wilpena.

Just a post script when considering an XS to an SE. Whilst fiddling around under the glove box getting the car ready for the trip I came across Footwell globe holders without globes. Given I bought the car new I thought they might have been left out on the production line. Searching through the model line up and what is in each model I came across the the Footwell lights and they're not available for the XS but they are for the every model above. Now this might seem like a small issue but I thought I'll buy a couple of globes and guess what I now have light at my feet. So for $2 I now have a feature of the more expensive models. It makes me think what else could I add cheaply to increase the specifications?
