Does a hardcore luxury offroader still have a future?

No offence to the LR2, I think its a great car and I may replace the D4 with one in coming years, but "Hardcore offroader"?

    First drive: Land Rover Freelander

The article doesn't refer to hardcore. If it does I missed it. Another instance of a sub-editor putting a headline spin on the journalist's article methinks.

Hardcore it is not but the journalist fails to see that the vehicle has no direct competitors so he tried to make some up. The Evoque is more expensive if you actually want 4WD, the Q5 and X3 are vastly more expensive as well.

When I was looking in 2007 for a new car I wanted a diesel wagon with a six speed auto, 5 star safety and one you could actually take off road. The FL2 sits alone at 55K and is easily best in class off road. Oh but the X3 has a better engine, it would want to for 15K more.
