Thread: NEW FREELANDER 2 TD4 OWNER

I have the same towbar on my 2010 model done by the haymen reese guy in brookvale. All done with wiring & no problems 2 years later. Price sounds similar to what I paid, if your guy is competent you should be ok

I've also just bought a Freelander 2 TD4 (2009). It was suggested to me that if I didn't fit the factory bar that not all of the Freelander's electronics would recognise that a trailer was attached, affecting ABS and other stability systems etc. Does anyone have any knowledge of this

Ok so i got the Haymen Reese towbar fitted it looks great and works as a towbar should the guy did a good job all wired in nicely BUT............................................... .......................... If you would like the reverse sensors to turn off with a trailer connected the the pretty little light on the dash that will be another $1000 on top for landrover to wire in their ecu and do an upgrade

Does anyone have any experience with this? I am more so interested in what the landrover towbar ecu does to the brakes when a trailer is attached

my tow bar wiring works fine, connect a trailer up & the sensors turn off etc, when i put the blinker on the green light on the dash flashes, all good. EXCEPT the 1 time I have towed my mates boat, the trailer has LED lights & the freelander didn't like that, sensors stayed on, trailer lights kept flashing etc. I understand this was due to the low resistance from the LED lights (?) & I would need to correct this somehow if it was a regular undertaking.

I am waiting for the release of the MY13 model specs to see if they have made any progress with the LED situation at a non-gouging cost, I see other manufactures have had similar LED problems and have made available extra looms, while researching I came across a local supplier in Newcastle NSW of which the following link may be of interest for those towing LED equipped trailers etc. LED Tow Connect - Tow LED Fitted Trailers Safely I don’t know if it fits your particular requirements, I have not made any enquires only read their blurb

RE : LED's I towed my mates bike trailer with LED's, no problem as he had fitted a LED control box to the trailer ( about $20). If you need more info let me know & I will get make / model of the LED box. Bigger issue for me is where & how to fir a TEKONSHA P3 brake control unit to a Freelander 2, has anyone done that ?

I'm running the Tekonsha P3. I had it fitted by Hardings the local caravan people. No problems, works much better than the old type. Regarding wiring of tow bar. I have the HR 50mm hitch but with LR wiring loom. Reverse sensors are turned off when trailer/van plugged in. No issues with electric brakes but I had to fit a Linear Design gizmo into the wiring to get the LED lights on the caravan to work properly.
