Thank God my LR (RRC) is only 30 years old, I dread to think what problems may be in store when it gets older, maybe I should have bought a jeep?![]()
I've got a Freelander 2 and a Jeep. Each is on close to 200,000 kms and I'm happy with them both. I plan on keeping them for another 200k or until I win the lottery. The FL2 is more comfortable, uses less fuel (I bought the diesel, it's sweet), and will go almost everywhere the Jeep can. Everyone knows about the rear diff problem, it usually gets fixed under warranty. All the other stuff is specific to your car...sorry, but it sucks to be you. By the way, my experience says that you shouldn't buy a Jeep either.
That destroy my Jeep guy isn't Jeep material I'm afraid. Jeeps MUST be taken off road regularly so that they get the chance to please you. If only driven around town they will give you the ****s with all the little nonsense things that go wrong. All is forgiven when they perform in the rough and the smile is on your face.

Ever heard the phrase 'Friday Car'?
or have you ever driven a Jeep?
I have. In fact I've driven quite a few hundred and I still own a disco. Im not saying the disco is reliable, but its a better option than a Jeep.
A FL2 might be a bit safer than a Jeep

RIP Bucko - Riding on Forever
I agree with your last statement. I have six Landrovers and know full well what they are like.
Awesome.
However, as a practical form of transport there are other vehicles out there. A Jeep? that is not what you should be looking for. They are very similar to a Landrover. I can't help thinking you would be jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire.
My advice to you would be to get a Commodore. The worlds best car.
My 1994 VR Commodore has been the best car I ever bought. It's done 470,000 reliable km so far and is still going strong. Servicing is cheap and it is a very comfortable car to drive. I've towed cars on tandem trailers effortlessly so it should tow your light weight caravan easily.
Why Holden have decided to stop producing these great vehicles I'll never understand.
Cheers Baz.
