    Love the Freelander 2 but concerned about reliability

    Hi all,

    I'm hoping to tap into the collective knowledge base re: FL2 diesel. I have a budget of 30k (max) and love everything about the FL2, however I am not in a position to fork out repair bills in the thousands.

    Can anyone tell me about the reliability of the FL2 in the 25-30k price range (2010+)? What do I need to be aware of?

    I would really appreciate any advice you FL2 owners or those in the know can spare.

    This is a dream car, but it must be reliable!

    I don't own one but have been looking into them as could be interested down the track.

    I personally will be looking for a facelift 2013 model in a SE or HSE. It was the last major revision done before production ended. I think the interior and exterior look much better. I also understand the updated programming meant it was also better off road.

    With your budget your getting close to that.

    They seem to be a fairly trouble free vehicle. The highest risk aspect seems to be the rear diff.

    The diesel motor is ford/psa. A similar motor went into the Mondeo, Peugeot, Citroen and others. The transmission is a Japanese Aisen box that also went into a heap of cars. JLR went on to use this combo in the Range Rover Evoque, and the motor in the Discovery Sport.

    Have a look at the Freel2 website. You will find lots of info.

    I've had my late 2013 Freelander 2 from new and so far.

    Diesel return pipe has been replaced under global recall done prior to delivery of the car.

    The water in fuel system was replaced 4 months ago. Dealer thinks a bad sensor was in the car from new.

    After many arguments the LRA and the Dealer the compatibility list of Windows phones and the Bluetooth isn't 100% compatible in the TD4. Android, old Nokia's and Apple phones work just fine.

    This is my first Land Rover and did a lot of research on the Freelander 2 and they appeared to have a good reliability.
