Thread: Removing rear seats

To give you an example of the advice I've received so far, the local tyre dealer thought I would be "getting a bit close to the fuel tank".

The service guys where I bought the car thought I shouldn't do it because if I "buggered up a thread it would cost me thousands to get a new section put in".

I'm still inclined to pull them out but ...?

Not familiar with the FL2, don't the rear seats double fold forward up behind the front seats like they do in the FL1, to give you more space?

Yes, Ausfree. They do fold but even in their folded position they still take up space. I'm looking for as much space for equipment inside the cabin as I can get.

They sound like pretty **** weak reasons not to do so.

Sorry, I don't mean to be flippant, but how about a trailor to take the extra luggage?

Yeah; may be the way to go (but I didn't want to go the expense if I could avoid it!). I appreciate your thoughts.

I just did a months trip away in my disco 1 and pulled out the rear seats for the same reasons that you want to.

Removing them gives a lot more room than just folding them away - ie enough room to carry an extra spare inside - and was pretty straight forward in the disco (just 8 bolts to unscrew).

Just don't get too carried away with the extra space and fill it with stuff you don't need like I did!

I pulled the lower part of the seats out when I wanted to sleep in the back. This allows the backs of the seats to fold perfectly flat and you get more distance from the tailgate to the back of the front seats to store stuff.

There is a torx head bolt just under the seat on the vertical face of the floor pan that holds the seat in. Takes 5 mins to remove the seats.

Just make sure you store the seats carefully... I got dirt and other crap on mine when I left them in the garage. Took ages to clean up!
