Thread: shocks, whats best

IMO Koni or Bilsteins are the choice for LR's. I prefer Koni's mainly because I find the valving is a bit softer than Bilsteins and they're adjustable to suit your preference. Also being rebuildable you really have them for life and worth spending extra on long term (at over $200 each these days, I priced a set a while back )

I've had OME and have some on my 76 Rangie (not bad, a bit too hard though) and Ranchos (never again, Justin has had sucess with his set, I didn't and were flogged after about 12 months ). Pro Comps I can't comment on but seem to have pretty good rep those who have them fitted.

I think for your truck Konis would be the go. Its getting the correct lenght could be fun.

I am gonna agree with all, specialy in the front end. Konis or Bilsteins only, in the rear procomps are ok but I wouldn't run em up front after using my billys.

any ideas on prices? or just have to ring around? Bev at Ricks 4wd suggested a cheap brand for $90 each, dont know if anyone has fitted them or how they go

Just a sneaky tip guys........I have Old Man Emu's in my rangie........but they're unavailable in australia (oz made shocks we're not allowed to have?!?!?!?) the part numbers are N174 and N175.......looooong travel L/R racing shocks.US market only......(rubicon trail anyone) you can buy them on the net FROM the US, but not "available" here. I'm currently running 80 series cruiser springs, with 32" BF All-terrains with no guards cut......plenty of clearance. Wortho also runs a set in his S1 disco.A hassle to get hold of but well worth it

The 'Cruiser springs aren't too hard are they? I've heard this before but I am not a real fan of stiff springs and would've thought that the 80 series springs would be a bit too harsh for the front of a Rangie.

I have pro comps all round on my rangie, I also had pro comps on my county before the rangie...... the ones i had on the county seemed great but I was told they were too long, so when I changed to the rangie I swapped them for the so Said correct lenght, I now rate them as crap!!!!.
Maybe I was advised wrong and the ones i have are not suited but I
dont think I would bother with pro comps again. Plus I emailed them and asked for a sticker or to for the truck,,,,, no response.. next time tough dog.....

the cruiser springs are standard 80 series.....same spring rate as a rangie.....just taller....might have firmed it up a bit......but rangie's are on the soft side as is.Custom lower spring mounts...but easy swap
