    300TDI Guru's wanted

    Ok

Need to talk to some TDI Gurus. I have aquired a TDI Disco which has no pick up from a standing start. It needs to have a big gutfull of right foot then it gets going. Anywhere I should start or any inherent faults to look for?????. Just might save me some time looking.

    Thanks Justin

Hi Justin, its the other one here

Ha yes, the old Tdi effect AND the fact that you have an Isuzu in the other vehicle.

This is normal in the Tdi , with standard fuelling and pump plunger settings.

Stick a new timing belt on it, increase the plunger lift to 1.6mm and do the 'Thermoguard tweaks' and all will be well

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈

There is a company that does upgrade turbo kits in brisbane for approx $2400 all parts included and they say gives 40%more power, You might be able to do it yourself if you know where to start.
also make a mandrel exhaust or talk to TAIPAN performance about the exhausts, less mufflers always helps. as they have a few tricks up their sleeve or in their case, pipes.
The intercooler made bigger will help a lot too as the standard is a bit small and can cause underperformance and overheating,
Have heard a snorkel is a good idea too as the motor draws cooler clean air for the motor.
    hope this helps

"has no pick up from a standing start"

Yes, that described my defender when i bought it, and yes, tweaking the injector pump made a huge difference to off-the-line accelleration. It will still disappoint if you are used to Isuzu low down torque. Man i miss that.

Do use an EGT though when tuning. I had my pump done by a reputable LR mechanic and the EGTs climbed easily to above 700 deg after the tweak. Since had them turned down whilst maintaining acceptable performance.
