There are plenty of people running 285/75 on a 16x7 rim so you will be able to find someone that is willing, but yes it is under the min width set by most tyre manufacturers. Also the 285 is not 12 wide, closer to 11 from memory.

I had a set of 32x9.5 Simex on 15x7 rims, measured almost as tall as my 285 BFGs but not as wide. Simex in a 32 or 33 will measure taller then marked, and the wider the simex tyre the taller also (from my experience).

255/85 is a pretty good size, taller then the 285 but not as wide. Nath's set of 255/85 Maxxis tyres measured almost as tall as Justin's 35inch Creepies

If they're telling you that then they're talking out there arse and don't know what they're talking about (obviously just going by 'what the book' tells them ).

I ran my 285/75R16 Silverstones on std offset 16x7 steel Disco rims which you have fitted to yourt Disco. IICR the Disco steel rims are actually a bit wider than 7 inches (about 7 1/4 inches) from what I have been told/read over the years, I run the Dynamica rims which are 16x8 mainly for a bit more offest. Rims are @$120 each.

Footnote on what Philippe has mentioned, 99% of tyres that state they're 33 inches are more likely to be 32.5-7 inches in diamiter pending on the manufacturer. My Mt117 Sports are ther tallest 285/75 size I've had at around 33.1 inches

Does anybody suggust any other brands to consider ???

If i was buying tyres (without looking to see what else is around) i would probably get:

Maxxis Bighorn (I think ) - Mud / Everyday Tyre
Silverstone Sport - Bit more agressive not driven everyday but driving on them to 4wd
Silverstone Extreme - Weekend only tyre

Not sure on the current price comparison between BFG and Maxxis but i dont know that the BFG would be worth any extra coin.

Jungle Tracker 2 by Simex was recommended by a shop I trust 33x10.5

Those 2 Simexs are also a good fit on 7" rims, and the 32" ET is as big as the already oversized 33x10.5" JT2.
The other option is to go down a size to 32x10.5 in the centipede

Does anybody have any experience with these tires or any other ideas?

There is a difference between what will fit and what is legal.

About the only 285/75-16 tyres that are approved for a 7" rim are the Mickey Thompson MTZ's and the old MTX I think they were called - the ones that Roothy used to run on Milo.

The Simexs are a good fit onto 7" rims. The 32x10.5 ET is as big as the already oversized 33x10.5 JT2.

One other thing to consider is the noise from a centerpede or jungle trekkers... i've run 34" JT2's before and they were a great tyre but sounded like a twin prop plane even over the noise of the diesel

I agree. I tried it and lasted about 6 months.

If you are DDing it then I'd be looking for something like a mud radial. The MTZ seems on the surface to be a goos option for sizing, pattern and construction.

Look at the Federal Couragia MT's that Shepp is running on his D2, good tyre and cheap too for a weekend dunga. I almost bought a set but was lucky enough to score the Sports off grimace at the time. I would have bought the Silverstone sports again new but had none in QLD after ringing around half a dozen places (plus they're gone up at least $40 each since last bought a set) and didn't know how long til they would get some again .

I had to buy a spare from Hobzee 4X4 shop in Melbourne, was $285 a tyre plus freight (about $320 landed).
