Thread: Levuka September 19-20th

Great trip, although I plan to do more driving next time. Camp fire banter as already said was some of the best you'll hear anywhere. Grimace, you are now officially one of the funniest guys I know..........was crying with laughter
Kids had a blast and saw some cracking wildlife.
Pete, great job organising......always hard to arrange groups for the day, but you managed fine. Thankfully no recovering of the Mack Truck this time although some slippery hills did require a few goes.....time for 35s soon I think
I took several pics so will get them off my camera at some point and post up.
Huge thanks to Matt (my partner for the weekend) for organising our camp food etc......cracking job And maybe next time we'll leave the red wine and vodka at home Or just even stick to one type of drink
Dave, apologies again on behalf of Charlie who drunkenly fell out of his seat and knocked a full glass of Bundy all over you......he was mortified Em did wonder why the washing bag smelt of hard liquor
Buzz, great job on the biltong (spelling?) that was huge hit and very addictive.......feel free to cook up another batch for the next trip
All in all a great weekend away with a top bunch of people. Looking forward to the next one

Great trip as usual. Thanks to Pete for organising, Justin for the winch recovery and Harry for the slow snatch

The boys had a great time, cuts and bruises aside. I never realised cows could be so entertaining

Apart from getting stuck twice the only downside of the trip for us was the flat on the way home. Whilst driving through the road works at Park Ridge at 60kph the red warning light came on, bells ringing, etc, the D3 squatted down and panic set in. Nowhere to stop safely so I trundled along for another 500 metres 'till I could exit.

Turns out the left rear was flat thanks to a nail I'd picked up. Unload the car to get to the spare, get the jack out and find the D3 would not got to normal height let alone off road height (required for jacking) which meant I had to use the scissor jack in lieu of the bottle jack as it wouldn't fit under the chassis rail.

I suspect the car faulted the air suspension due to the flat on a fully-laden car which it couldn't "level"? In retrospect I think I should have removed the key for a minute of so and tried starting her up again to access off road height for the change.

Anyway, changed the tyre and off we went, no problems at all.

Wow! Bit busy at work today so just want to say a quick thanks to everyone.

Congrats Pete & Sam for organising a good weekend away (even if it was muddy).

The pics and videos are great.

The camp was fantastic.

The mud was shocking, I am not a mud person and I tell you what it is so slipery and unpredictable its not funny. But i did have a laugh or three hundred!

All in all I had a great weekend, and I really appreciate the company that is always top notch!

Silly me thou, the one time I don't do a full camp check before leaving is the one time I leave something behind. I left my camp cook plate and bag by the fire .... Gonna kick my own arse!

Righty ho...now catching up. As has been said...excellent trip, camp fire was top form again....you wouldn't want to be to PC to be in this club . I have managed to lick my wounds after the hammering I got from a "m" ( he lost the "ate") and am ready for round 15. Was great having so many kids....mine had a blast...especially the boys.

Smokey came out basically unscathed and again impressed with how she performed...though a rear and front bar are definitely required as only a matter of time before one or the other gets left behind .

Kudo's to "m" for his first time out as TL......begrudgingly well done . As to the rest of the members on the trip....look forward to seeing you out on the tracks again soon. I think it is a testament to the club that we have young lads in late teens/ early 20's right through to old dinosaurs like...ummmm.....errrrr.....well hazard a guess at own risk and everyone in between and maintain a great atmosphere. Anyhoo...here are my collection of pics....got some video....just havent worked out how to get it from puter to the likes of Youtube etc or to edit it...but working on it.

Looks as if you all had a ripper weekend, wish I could have been there. Also great pics, I see that it's dried out a bit since I was there about 5 weeks ago (havoc crossing was muddier as well as the dip at the start of Rustys run and Rosemarys Road). The logistics of the trip by the sounds of it went well with that amount of vehicles too which is a good thing.

The dunga is getting off-road withdrawls but will be fighting fit soon, just not enough hours in the day or time over the weekend (have 2 wrecks to part out that takes a hell of a lot of time).

I was at work on saturday wishing I was there throwing the dunga through all sorts of torture

In all fairness everyone did a great job with the vehicles they were driving. Considering we had everything from unlocked, road tyres, locked with big tyres, locked with little tyres. We even had vehicles with no centre diff. Remember guys push the lever forward and to the left.

thanks to all for a great weekend with good company and good fun on the tracks.
we had very few breakdowns, and were relieved to not have too many recoveries, although it will be better with smaller groups, which we will sort out.
many thanks to pete and his driver, sam, for their help with all the trip participants. .

Actually Trav, we have heard the cry "Go the Dunga" many times before and even the cry "Stop Dunga" as ran off on its own but, until this weekend we have not heard "Where's the Dunga"

I must admit that the Maxi Rear was very handy this weekend, with the other half of the Job on the front CV still to be completed, I have not used the front locka much lately, but with the Maxi in the rear guaranteeing that the rear would not break traction violently, I was able to sneak the front in.
So I basically went from Unlocked to double locked in one easy lesson.
Any weekend with a new Locka is going to be a good weekend.

As for driving skill, I was telling Harry today that I was looking for a Video that I thought Cheryl had taken of you climbing the steep, slippery, rutted hill at the start of Dingo’s. I wanted to post it as an example of a text book drive for others to learn from. As I told Harry we look at your car and give it credit for what it’s just done, but ignoring how it is piloted would be a big mistake. Great drive mate.

If anybody has video of Justin climbing Dingo’s on Saturday Arvo, preferably shot showing the front of his car, PLEASE POST IT UP.

Whilst we are bickering about which breed of 100” Rover is best there was a “Short” blue thing winding its way around, never backing up and just quietly going everywhere. Well driven Sam,
