Good luck, Alan. I'm sure whatever you do will be right. From my own point of view there is something unfulfilled about a Landy man in a Prado. You just look at it and say to yourself, I wish it hadn't turned out that way..

Ive seen it happen twice before:

First one was a young guy who had the maturity and taste to own a white 93 D1 V8 two door. Would you believe that car never gave him a moment's trouble. It was passed on to his bother who passed it to another brother and it's still going pulling horse floats. He also had an S3 trayback which he sold/gave to a farmer as a fire tender. Now has kids and a Prado. Reckons he's happy but it's a lie.

Another mate, older bloke retired now who I go trekking with and a D1 Tdi. In the end it started giving him trouble. Not all it's fault, it got cooked towing a float, the old temp gauge tells you when it's too late thing and then his wife fiilled it with petrol. They now have a Prado which they like but just the other night a friend told me he came up to him and said "can I listen to you start your Disco?" He has a shorty for getting round his block but it's not the same as going camping in a proper car.

Buy it. Tell you better half (or in some cases our better three quarters ) that you know you are taking a chance. Tell her that you took a chance on her and look how well it has turned out. Just tell her that you are just trying to repeat the ultimate experience. Besides where else can you run your hands over such magnificent curves and still stay faithful to your better half (or better three quarters). Try it with a soft cloth after a good waxing- I am talking about the Puma here. It is a very, very satisfying experience. Believe me, I have done it-slowly, very very s-l-o -w-l-y.
If that argument does not work bring in the carwax, cloth and chamois and utter those immortal words "Lie down" and wave the carwax, cloth and chamois in your beloved's face. I think that should swing it. I hope this helps.

Mmmmm sometimes I think you're all a bit strange the way you think of Landies..... then I look in the mirror and know you are
Anyway, I spoke to the dodgy salesman today and they're being just a touch disingenuous in calling the Stamp Suty the "licence transfer fees". So it's 46990K plus 3050K S/Duty which makes it only about 4 grand less than a brand new one!
He deliberately told porkies when I asked if that was the drive away price and did it include the above mentioned and it's a good job I checked their website as I may have been caught and then the Cook would definitely have done something nasty to me!!!!
But what I will do after such a near miss is wait 9 months (bit like being pregnant I suppose), check what LRA have done about dealers/warranty work etc. in the bush and then if things have improved order a new one if there's no good second hand pre loved never been off road ones going in Perth.

    Update.

Bit of an update on my being tempted to buy the Puma. The price went from 48990 to 47990 to 46990 and then I went South for a couple of weeks and lost touch.
Then when I returned I checked their website and it was down to 42990.
All these prices were nett of SD.
I emailed a fellow LROCWA member that the new price made it a fairly reasonable buy and he rang them only to be told they'd sold it to the stealers for 41K but if he could get that amount to them by such and such time he could have it for that price.
He couldn't so off to Southern Land Rover it went and they now want 46990 for it plus SD!
This makes it back over 50K and not worth it compared to a new price of around 54K drive away inclusive of SD.
    Alan.
