Really the point is that both brands make very good vehicles and I'd be happy to own either a D4 or a 200 series.

Agree with the last statement... both cars are good... just the D4 is a ahead of the class in this case!

Would you say that little bit of magic is worth close to the extra $15K??? 300cc, an extra turbo and an extra 40kw is not much for $15K.Quote:

I wouldn't pay $15k as that is extreme. However the engine is worth a extra bit of money over the 2.7L. Comparing the two modules 3L vs 2.7L its really a no brainer IF you have the extra money to spend. Add a chip to a 3L and then you have a wild animal.
I guess the same question could be said, why buy a D4 2.7L when you can get a D3.... Me personally I had the money, so why compromise and then wish I had a 3L only later to chip it so it would be similar to the 3L. :p
Oh and reliability, all cars are computers on wheels. If you break down, it will still be on the same truck. Just as the 2.7 is a great engine so is the 3L, that's why they have them in the Jags...:angel:

But you did - a 2.7 D4 can be got for $75K new whereas the 3.0 D4 is just under $90K - of course deals can be done but that is roughly the difference in pricing.Quote:

A fuse seems to have disabled the whole vehicle and guess what. They are some kind of square fandangle bit that no one has spares of or even ever knew would give trouble.

I am getting my New vehicle in a week or so(Navara) and just a look under the hood of that and no wonder. My reliable if simple 300 tdi is a fix on the side of the road, the rest of all new cars even the new Defenders, are all eletronic engineering marvels. A wonder they run for a s long as they do.
And how about in ten years when all those electrics are getting hot and cold a million times.
We all thought the P38's are/were hard to maintain. New D3/4's and cruisers are way more complicated than that.
Let alone some guys bitch about the extra 300ccm or extra turbo or what not.
Its just all getting to complicated i think.

There was $7k difference for a fully option 2.7 at $83k where I paid $90k for all the same fruit plus it was the 3L.
So $15K is high; agreed, but $7k difference is good value for a bigger and more advance engine. Plus if it wasn't the time of the hail storm back in 2010, I'm sure the deal would of been even better!
