But it is a truck engine too, supposedly designed by UD and used in light buses, trucks, forklifts, etc just like the 4BD1.

I really, really like the TD42T, but the problem with the stock Patrol is that low range isn't low enough for that sort of abuse, err, towing.
I always get a shock when jumping from one to the other how much higher low range is in the Patrol.

I agree with this.^^^^ The best patrol ever built. With some crawler gears would be a weapon.

We gave up on the Patrols here as the chassis couldn't cope with out rough country:( Used to rip spring perches out and crack near the fuel tank.

We now just have Rovers and Cruisers. Life is simple this way:)

I still have a soft spot for the intercooled TD42T though:D

Supposedly fixed now, as Telstra, the mines and our local spray contractors all did the same thing.

They beefed up the tie rod and drag links too compared to our girl, and it is already much beefier than the stock Defender one.
