Special conditions in place for hail damaged vehicles : VicRoads
From my understanding of above link is If you are the owner (not have bought a hail damaged vehicle) of a vehicle damaged by hail on 6 march 2010, you do not have to get the superficial damage repaired for the VIV inspection but a Road worthy certificate is still required and you have until the end of 2010 to get the VIV inspection completeded.
Yes but it only extending the time to get the VIV until later this year. You will still be up for the $475 VIV inspection fee though when you take it there.
What stinks is the fact that your car is superficially damaged through no fault of your own. Mechanically it is sound, only it's appearance is degraded. but you are required to take it in for a VIV check and pay the $475 just for them to make sure that your haven't rebirthed your own vehicle.
So a person effected has all these costs.
Your rego is canceled, so get a partial refund from vic roads, Vic roads even take out an administration fee for this..
You pay your basic excess approx $550 for most this is taken out of the payout from the total they will give you less any unpaid insurance installments if you pay monthly.
You get paid out market value in a lot of cases.
Then you buy it back
You need to pay for a roadworthy check,
You then need to re register it Approx $550-600
Purchase new plates
Pay for a VIV $475,
your up for quite a few dollars before you even contemplate forking out money for the repairs.
