I thought it was a movie - then my wife told me it was a series. So I didn't bother watching it.

Of course it wont be as good as Band of Brothers - that was originally a book, properly researched and written by an expert on the subject. Tom Hanks was in Turner and Hooch and Speilberg just remakes ET over and over again but using different situations.

    Given its an American show

Given its about one of the most gung ho branches of American Military

Given its about the first major military campaign

I thought it was very understated and under played what actually happened during the Guadacanal campaign how close they came to losing the lot and were only saved by the never say die attitude of the marines on the ground.

I enjoyed what l saw will continue to watch it next week

Noticed that, just checked my episodes and they go for 50mins each, I see next week they turn 50mins into 70mins with ads. I really enjoyed part 5 BTW.

I think this one is based on the diaries of 3 soldiers that were involved. So t's probably even more factual than band of brothers was.

On a different note. I thought it was great. Wish there was no ad's though. Will definately be buying the dvd's.

I do hope they don't carry on about being the first to defeat the Japanese forces on land. Yank history rarely mentions Milne Bay and Kokoda. In fact they tend not to mention any Australian involvement in the New Guinea-Solomons campaigns. Milne Bay was the first land defeat of the Japanese and the combined defeats of the Japanese at Milne Bay and Kokoda were what stopped the downward advance of the Japanese army and put it into retreat.
