Battery recommendation for old Troopy (in Perth)

    Hi All

My mate has a 1970 Troopy and he needs a new battery. The car sits idle most of the time and he does trickle charge from time to time but he is looking for a big tough mother that can take some neglect, or he doesn't want to buy a cheapy that will die of neglect if it isn't started every week.. He doesn't mind topping up himself so it need not be sealed etc.

Any suggestions? Or a recommendation of a knowledgable retailer (Pref around Osbourne Park) would be handy too.

    TIA.

I had a '74 FJ55 (petrol) - it had an N70ZZ that lasted for years and thrived on neglect.
There's not much electrical load other than cranking on those old buses - even less if she's a diseasal.
Try Repco - last one I bought for my Defender (a month ago) was $200.

N70EX Extreme, semi deep cycle made by Exide, my last one is 8 years old and still going strong, now in the ol' ute and a new one in my car, bought at a Bridgestone dealer for $145 with a bit of discount. Absolutely 100% reliable starting in that time, only leaks a bit of acid now. Runs the fridge a couple of times a year too.
