BTW, we can buy Caltex bar and chain lube for $60 for 20 litres incl. GST here on the east coast ATM.
That's the cheapest walk in off the street price I've found so far for B&C lube.
I really wanted to use Canola but it needs some tackifier and EP additive to really work properly on longer bars IMO.

We had some at work that was way to thick,ended up giving it away.I refused to put it in the shire saws,never mind my own.
Would only empty a third of the oil reservior on full.Usually with the BP C&B oil it works out a tank to a tank of fuel.

If it's too heavy cut it with something like hydraulic fluid.
B&C oil is available in different grades like ISO 100, 150 and 220.
220 would be miles too thick for normal use here, but usually if it's too think they've added too much tackifier. Apparently you don't need much.
The Caltex stuff is roughly equivalent to a heavy SAE30 engine oil before the tackifier is added so should be just about right.
I haven't run any of the Caltex yet, well, sort of, I mixed it with the last of my Dolmar B&C oil (have no idea who makes that) and am running that out ATM.
Going to get the boys to drop me another truckload of wandoo logs off this week,plenty going to waste at the moment.Shame there isnt alot of Jarrah,we took a truck and trailer load to the depot on friday.Jarrah has to be shared amongst the crew,nobody wants the Wandoo.If this splitter Ive got coming is any good it should eat these rings.

Good to see the jungle juice works. Hopefully ATF has lubricating qualities, but I'm sure the bar & chain oil is overkill, so one will balance out the other..;)
ATF seems to be a rather popular part of a LOT of peoples brews, wether it be bar oil or gun oil.......

ATF is an oil, just like Hydraulic fluid is an oil, and most ATF's are rather good oils at that ;)Quote:

And contrary to popular belief, they have bugger all detergents in them, a good petrol and particularly diesel oil have much higher levels of detergent/dispersant additives. Just an FYI :D
