I have not payed any duty etc on any purchase from UK, Cyprus etc. Have been given price including freight and that's it. Please note that I have not purchased anything excessively bulky.

Duty is charged at this end not in the other country and they cant quote on that

The size doesnt really matter its what is written on the invoice if its under $1000 it goes straight through anything over gets charged duty and i would imagine storage if it takes a while to contact you

The only time i have had a problem was when the sender used an old box as internal packing the invoice said one item the xray showed 2 boxes so it got picked out for a little bit of a rummage around and once they saw what was in there they sent it in its way no problems

So the best way to do it is to buy small orders but just remeber it could cost more in frieght than you would save on duty for some things
Like heads very heavy very expensive to ship and purchase
It would cost more in freight to separate than the duty so just pay the duty

I just had a head (300Tdi) shipped over from the mother land with DHL from Turner engineering and it got to Perth in 5 days... Its quicker to send one thing fro the UK to Perth then from Perth to Brisbane.. Go figure.. And it was under $1000... cost me 85 pound for shipping (20kg)

As many of you know I import and resell machine shop supplies. I now rarely buy anything from Europe or the UK. Almost everything I sell comes from the USA except special taps and dies that have to be made to order. These come from China.

Two reasons for not shopping in the UK and Europe. 1- Prices of almost everything have risen over the last 15 years to an extraordinary level, and 2- the very high cost of freight or postage.

I use the United States Postal Service exclusively for items ex USA and insist my suppliers use USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Boxes except for small and light items. I can get 20 lbs of goods in a Large Flat Rate Box for $US64.35. The parcels usually arrive in 5-7 days from posting.

Keep your purchasing below A$1,000 and avoid duty and other charges.

I recently had 2x air springs for my D2, and EGR removal kit, and a set of silicone turbo hoses sent from the UK, UPS (arranged by seller). Took 4 days, and freight charge was $98AUD.

I landed all that for about $100 less than I could just buy the air springs for here ... freight included!.

ok guys some good info there, but before we do get off track....I am aware of the GST and Duty side of things. What stung me before was the freight company. They charged me airport storage fees (24hrs ) brokerage, and freighting from Brisbane to GC....this was after I had paid the quoted price for freight to the sender (a business) to ship to my address....not the airport??????

both that and this time goods AND shipping will total less than Au$1000

Perhaps you should discuss this with your supplier, if they have paid for delivery to your address, they have not got what they paid for and need to know this.
