It's a Land Rover thing I know BUT.....

Just a wee bit of a whinge.I know I`ve been told Isuzu motors tend to shake and rattle a bit ( slight understatement) and land rover could also be spelt Valdez after a certain leaky ship.I did not realise till I now have the pleasure of owning a Isuzu powered Land rover how true it all was.Never seen a vehicle like this one, which given enough time with the motor running, could etheir dismantle its self until it stopped or run out of oil and stop.A case in point.Noticed a oil leak appearing some ware at the front of the motor. Was a oil gallery plug that was vibrating undone.Tail gate rubber stop.Vibrated lose and is now gone.Seat mounts, done up tight, vibrated lose.Power steering tension arm, bolt working its way undone.Etc etc Ahhh well it gives me a hobby of sorts.Bolting every thing back up.

Up the idle speed a bit helps. But keep an eye on bolts etc, also watch out for the occasional loose rivet.

Well 3.9 is a VERY big 4 cylinder and AFAIK they do not have a balance shaft.
I bet you can feel every cylinder fire too.

Yep have that problem too.My ute motor is the smaller one at 3.6 ltr.Still you know when its idling.

The oil leaks are not only from the motor, but also from the British Range rover gear box and the British Range rover power steering(only a weep)Not a ome leak but the rear diff weeps through were there was a weld repair.I`m guessing a diff at one stage died in a spectacular way and parts exited the diff body.
