    whats the difference?

What is the difference between a series I discovery transfer case and a defender transfer case?

    Is it stronger?

    does it have different gearing?

I see the odd comment about fitting one to a discovery/RR, and would like to know what the difference is to weigh up the odds of fitting one?

Defender transfer case has a lower high range gear set. Low range is the same.

Only if you're concerned about low range gearing. just doing the tc will only alter high range.

What size are the tyres in old school measurements?

    315/70/16 are the same as 35 x about 12 x 16" tyres

Besides the high range ratio mentioned, late disco I transfer cases are LT230Q, vs LT230T (earlier disco I and defender).

IMHO the smaller teeth on the LT230Q gears will make them weaker (assuming everything else such as material is the same).

As I own a 94 change over model I will assume I have the stronger case, is the strength of compenents between the defender and the disco in the early jobbies the same?

Has anyone ever broken teeth or anything else on a disco Q transfer?
