There is a time in life for adventure and it must be after the person has reached mental maturity when they can realistically assess risks etc; and the human brain does not reach maturity until about the age of 26. It is the very reason why so many young people die on our roads - they do not weight the risk factor of what they are doing!

But having said all that, I am pleased she is safe and back home.
I have to agree here. Hind sight is a great thing. Every one praising her on a great effort.

Personally I believe it was foolhardy and I wonder how many of these people would be praising her if she had come to grief. They would all be saying that it was a stupid thing to do.

Having said this I sure am glad that she is home safely.

I believe this to be correct. Maybe not twenty six but close. I recently remember hearing a road safety expert on the radio talking about this. It has been proven using brain scans that the brain does not mature until early twenties.

Hmmm ... I reckon Jessica has demonstrated more mental maturity than many 26 year olds I know! Perhaps we forget that not everyone fits the average.

But more than that, there needs to be room for people to push the envelope, to go beyond the ordinary, so that we as human race can continue to develop our God given abilities. Once one person has gone through a barrier others will follow and we have progressed. Witness Roger Bannister, ran the four minute mile, long considered an impossibility. Now everybody does it - well except me! .

So it is with Jess - she has put it out there for kids. Look what can be done, if you just want to have a go. Open your minds past your computer games and see that there is a whole world out there to discover.

Was it risky? Of course it was risky! That is what makes it a noteworthy achievement. Was it foolhardy? NO! Emphatically. She did the preparation, she had proper backup support, a team working with her. Could it have gone wrong? Yes, of course, but she would have been no less of a role model if things had gone wrong. She had a dream, an aim, a purpose, and she went after it and succeeded. She is now being rightly credited with that achievement.

You have got to love a teenager who already has the mental maturity to tell the PM that she has to disagree with what he said.
BTW what is the bet that Jess is Young Australian Of The Year next year?

I don't think it was foolhardy at all ... if she had come to grief, it would have been a learning curve, one of which I am quite sure she would have learnt from. And then, she'd do it again, taking on board her experience and learned knowledge. It's people like her who are a true inspiration.

    G'day Folks

Well, good on her for achieving her dream and yes, the media attention was a little over done, as was the delayed homecoming, possibly to time with US/Oseas prime time veiwing none of that her doing.

But, to say that she is too young is wrong, as in other parts of the world 16 year old girls/women are raising families, working since age below 10, and boys have been fighting in wars,in our history there are unknown thousands that went off to WW1 & WW2 with false ages, and english mariner's have had had young boys as crew since the middle ages, children have farmed/hunted for eaons,in all countries, so the US/Western idea of under 21 being immature is incorrect.

    That's my 10cents worth!

    cheers

Without taking away from her effort...(which I acknowledge was really great),

... the "homecoming" turned out to be a particularly well managed publicity stunt for the advertiser-sponsors.

It occurs to me that just as the NSW Premier (K Keneally) has turned out to be merely a puppet for her masters, so is young Jessica (for her sponsors)... is this becoming the way of the world these days?

    ..........& that's another 10c worth, Uncle Ho
