Am I reading this correctly, that after 37mm of rain there is a dam about to burst? Is that a typo - i.e. should it be 137mm or 377mm or is there something not stated in the article. 37mm doesn't seem like much really nor does it sound like a deluge... ?? We've had twice that since monday and all that has happened here is the field mushrooms are bursting...

The point you may have missed was that the dam was in the middle of being dismantled!

Similar weather conditions in Wollongong in 1998 caused the collapse of a culvert and the loss of one life.

    They are naturally sensitive.

I see the rainfall has now been updated to 48mm. I did see the bit about the dam being 50% full and in the process of being dismantled but couldn't reconcile the 37mm (now 48mm) with being a deluge. I have a brother living in northern NSW and he talks of deluges of 150-200mm in hours so was wondering if this was a typo is all.

The Wollongong area has had over 100mm, I'm in Helensburgh about 20k north and have had 72mm, according to our rain gauge.
