OK everyone, I need to know what are the best sand tyres there are.
I am in a bet that my disco can out do a suzuki sierra in the sand. no rules, 6 months to get our respective vehicles together for the challenge. Hopefully by then I will have the 4.6 supercharged and if all goes well pumping out around 400nm at the wheels.
so with a 2' body lift on top of the 3" spring lift, flares, axles, 4.11 crown wheel and pinion etc. i believe I have the ability to go up to about 37" tyres..........
so any thoughts on the best sand tyres i can get they dont have to be registerable just the bgest in the sand there is
any thoughts?
remember this is a challenge that has been whittled down to the suzi and the landy, toyota nissans etc have all fallen bye the byes. My challenge was "last one standing I will challenge"
The suzi is very modified actually very very modified and my bloody brother owns it, so this is a challenge that goes back about 30 years all in all

Sand tyres. Tall, fat and very very open pattern are the best.
These are sand tyres

Even better youtube search it!
But I doubt those tyres are really feasible.......... but it would look cool and you did say ANYthing haha
I suppose you already know the basics about sand tyres, and that a datto 180b got over big red with no dramas........
And(pics) if it actually happens!!!!!!!!!!

pics will be mandatory, and it is in the sand hills of Coffin Bay the biggest softest sand hills in Australia
I did the Simpson East West in a sewing machine engine powered SIII with 7.50x16 truck steer tyres.
A non aggressive tread will lay out a track without digging in.
A tall tyre will have less rolling resistance, but too tall and you won't be able to take off in the sand.
Go too fat, and you will have more resistance to overcome. Imagine a tank (long narrow footprint) vs a steam roller (fat wide footprint). What you want to do is cover a large foot print, but with a narrow front band of resistance.
A gentle throttle on take off so you don't break ground and dig in.
Low pressures will be your greatest asset. I'll give a 7.50R16 as an example.
If you deflate it from 50psi to 15psi you will increase the footprint by 44%, but the footprint will remain at the same width, although the side wall may bulge a bit. To prove it to yourself, lower a tyre on some foam (like a closed cell foam old school type camping/sleeping mat). It will leave an imprint. Mark the corners with a texta, then lower the tyre pressure and repeat the test. You'll notice that the new imprint is longer, but not wider. The lower the tyre pressure, the longer the footprint. I read an article or saw a DVD about the recovery guy in Birdsville, and he was able to tow broken down cars over dunes by lowering pressures to as little as 12psi.
the best sand tyres are bald tyres.......
to reduce down pressure.....wider and taller tyres at lower pressures will get you over the sand.......
if you are comparing to a suzuki sierra......any tyres on them will work well on sand because the cars are so light.......
tall rag construction steer tyres are the best in sand. Id suggest that bead lockers that allow you to seriously drop the tyre pressure.
so are the nose wheels from aircraft.
go take your pick of almost any HT tyre that fits and your laughing.
I'll get a pic of the tread pattern from my beach rubber if you really want.
actually a set of Mattracks will out do most normal tyres

If you've benefited from one or more of my posts please remember, your taxes paid for my skill sets, I'm just trying to make sure you get your monies worth.
If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
spend some money on less sizable tyres and get some internal bead locks that way you can let your pressures right down!! and then nothing will stop you

Best sand tyre I ever owned.... Seriously.....
Closely followed by my 35" BFG MTs
Coffin Bay dunes, crawled up the dune at idle on a 35' day using no lockers....
I like your battle, but hardly a balanced contest in any regard... Have fun.
