Regrind the cam to a similar profile to the 2.6 6cyl. all valves will then open 5 degrees sooner and close 5 degrees later, allowing the engine to breathe. If you're using ULP, have the dizzy recalibrated (take some vaccuum advance out of it). Get a high compression head, fit electronic ignition for a better spark, fit good quality leads. Use the Zenith 36IV carby. Keep your tyres at 50psi on the road.
If that sounds too expensive, PM me and I could sell you a whole SIII with a motor rebuilt 15,000miles ago by the British army, with the above mods already done, plus extractors and a double barrel weber carby (the Zenith comes as a spare, but the weber doesn't do nearly as much as the cam regrind did).
