When our good friends moved to Adelaide some time back , we used to rent a farmhouse at Nelson.
It was on the Glenelg river and was a great spot.
Think it was called Sandy Waterholes?
Depends on what you're after as the backpackers hostel there was alright.

Don't know Nelson - but I will go and check it out on Google Maps. Is there any good exploring to do around there?
Yep
Lots of forests etc and as I remember we did a beach drive that started near Nelson and finished at Port Macdonnel. We had lunch in a great little cafe there and bought some cray at the local co-op
Check it out , it's a great spot to explore on the Vic/SA border.

That's true, but it is definitely beautiful country and the Little Desert isn't too far away. Nothing is difficult but that and the Gramps is all good offroad touring country. There's also the area around Avoca and that can get pretty interesting, or at least it was -- I heard the dozers have been in and ruined some of the good tracks. At least we won't need to spend an hour winching a Nissan up the rocky stuff now or recovering a broken LC100 off a hill ;-)
