    New Vehicles New paint.

As a lot of you might know the new vehicles to replace the G wagen are on the way.

the first of them have arrived.

In typical fashion either a civilian company has decided to take full advantage of a loophole in a clause in the contract or the military just shouldnt be allowed to write contracts for purchase. In any case. The new vehicles have to be repainted, the paints got some serious application and handling issues and concerns, All kinds of PPE and ventilation stuff has to be organized curing has to be done in a cool area with a nitrogen atmosphere. While its a fairly huge pain to sort and apply the paint does have some very unique properties its solvent structure is polynapturethene based which means you have to be very careful of your brushing/spraying technique as its got the same thickness as water and it doesnt gel very easily. This is of course offset by its tendancy to be very tempremental around temperature and humidity it goes to a sort of frozen coke consistancy with little floating crystals if you let it get too moist or too hot which makes getting a good paint application nearly impossible.

One of its best features is its impressive use of a FreudianRorsch bi-lineal suspension as part of the pigmentation layer of the paint. In conjunction with the ephemeralistic etch primer and the diffractional interference caused by the matting layer (which is the fancy name for the semi refractional effect of the top coat optically its about the same as the difference between a gloss finish and matt finish photo print) it takes advantage of the persistance of vision trait of the optics of your eye. I dont know if you've ever done it, the effect is sort of like when you're shaking so much you cant get a steady image in your eye so everything thats up close you cant get into focus so its all blurry and everything in the background becomes an indistinct blob of colours when you try to focus on something up close but the resolve to shapes when you relax and try to not look at anything specific. Thats more or less the effect of the new paint but it makes it happen without going to all the annoying effort of shaking the whole planet while fitting your own troops out with air cushion uniforms so they dont shake and thus can see their own vehicles.

due to the very disorientating effect looking at this stuff has its only front line specialist combat units that will be getting the vehicles that are repainted with this stuff so dont expect to see them being driven around they'll be hauled on trucks and in planes to where they are to be used. This is where the RAAF came into the picture we do the air movement plans and trials for the C-17 loads so one of the vehicles (incorrectly painted which is where my unit comes into the picture we look after the Tactical vehicles and since Im a gossip for new tech stuff how you get to see it first hand)

The upshot of all of this is really really cool, what you're looking at becomes blurry and because you cant resolve an image in your eye the properties of the FreudianRorsch pigment come into effect and you try to see what you want to see.

Admittedly the effect isnt as cool second hand through a camera, the glass is out of the vehicle to reduce shine, the underside paint isnt complete and theres still some markers fitted to the vehicle but it should give you an idea of the effect.

notice how its all blurry and due to the Freudian side of the FreudianRorsch styled pigment you see something that reminds you of you child hood in (thanks to the Rorsch technique of free image assosciation) whats otherwise a random blurry image.

Its actually pretty hi tech stuff, and Im amazed at what military technology can come up with these days.
If you have a look at the soldier in the gunners mount to the rear, he appears completely disguised by the field effect of the paint.
