I don't think HID low beams are illegal - just most aftermarket installations, as the ADRs clearly require them to be fitted with washer/wipers and this is usually not done. In addition it is easy to read the ADRs as requiring levelling on such lights, although the wording is so convoluted this is not as clear. In most states I would expect that engineering approval would probably be required for such a conversion.Quote:

The Lexus self levelling lamps are very quick to react, even under brakes they will move to compensate imediately. I thought I was imagining it until I read the destructions in the manual...

Technically then a D2a can legally be fitted with LED or HID low beam as the low and high are both on together and they have washer units....
This brings up the question again if there were D2a's that actually did come with HID option in another market somewhere. Still sure. Have seen a pic somewhere of one with factory HID reflector lenses.... :/

I was under the understanding that simple washers were not adequate and that self cleaning lights were required. I think this means that the lights automatically clean them selves when ever the lights are turned on. I was also under the impression that either self levelling suspension or self levelling lights, was required, though ther may now be an option for manual levelling.

I have to agree with you, Steve! HID's should all be illegal. I've been blinded too many times by people in very expensive compensation cars in situations just like that! It's bloody dangerous!Quote:

I've heard from many people that these lights cause headaches and queesiness...
If i feel i need extra light on deserted roads, i switch on some of my driving lights. As soon as there is an on-coming car approaching, i dip my lights to standard defender low beams and, if required, slow down a bit to give myself more reaction time untill the other vehicle has passed...
